Former Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member Kim Zolciak-Biermann has revealed the emotional toll her time on the popular Bravo series took on her, expressing relief at having left the show behind.
Zolciak-Biermann, who was part of the original cast when the show debuted in 2008, made these revelations during her appearance on MTV’s new reality series Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets. The show features eight celebrities living together in a secluded location, confronting personal issues.
In a candid conversation with fellow cast members, Zolciak-Biermann disclosed that she walked away from a lucrative contract with Real Housewives while eight months pregnant. She described the experience as “terrible” and claimed to suffer from “severe PTSD” as a result of her time on the show.
The reality star emphasized that no amount of money could compensate for the difficulties she faced, suggesting that her departure from the show was necessary for her well-being. She also suggested that some of her former co-stars might not be as successful now as they were when they were on the show.
Grammy-winning singer Macy Gray, who appears alongside Zolciak-Biermann on Surreal Life, praised her co-star’s decision to prioritize her mental health over financial gain and fame.
Despite her negative experiences, Zolciak-Biermann hasn’t completely ruled out a return to Real Housewives of Atlanta. She expressed enthusiasm about the recent announcement that former co-stars Porsha Williams and Phaedra Parks would be rejoining the cast. Zolciak-Biermann described Williams as “hysterical” and said she “absolutely adores her,” while also expressing support for Parks’ potential return.
After leaving Real Housewives during its fifth season, Zolciak-Biermann starred in her own spin-off series, Don’t Be Tardy. She has made occasional guest appearances on Real Housewives since her departure but has not returned as a full-time cast member.
