The Real Housewives of Orange County star Shannon Beador was sentenced to three years of probation and 40 hours of community service after her arrest in September for a DUI hit and run.
Beador, 59, is also required to complete a nine-month alcohol program and pay restitution for the house damage from the accident.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer had pushed for a harsher punishment for Beador, which included 30 days in jail.
The sentence comes less than a week after Beador was charged with two misdemeanors – one count of DUI and one count of hit and run. The reality star had a .24 blood alcohol level, three times the legal limit.
The Newport Beach Police Department arrested Beador at 1:17 a.m. on September 17 after she fled a collision that caused property damage.
The initial report says that police found Beador on a walk with her dog after she abandoned her car in the middle of the road.
The same day, Beador’s fellow Bravo star and friend Jeff Lewis addressed what happened on his SiriusXM talk show.
“Unfortunately [Shannon] got a DUI on Saturday night,” he said. “She was also in a car accident. She was injured, so she’s going to be recovering… I was shocked — she called me yesterday and we talked for a while — and I was shocked because I’ve never known Shannon to ever, ever drink and drive.”
He continued, “I will tell you she’s accepting full accountability. She is ashamed, she’s embarrassed.”
Lewis also clarified that he doesn’t think Beador is an alcoholic, just someone “going through a lot of personal struggles.”
Earlier this year, Beador went through a breakup with her boyfriend of three-and-a-half years, John Janssen.
On an episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County, she said she felt blindsided when he ended their relationship.
“I’ve never loved anyone more in my life,” she said. “I was hopeful this was the man I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I wanted it to work out. I’ve never loved anyone like I’ve loved John. But clearly, he didn’t feel the same way.”
The star was also allegedly removed from a bar earlier this year when she got into a screaming match with Janssen’s daughter. She later acknowledged the disagreement but vehemently denied that she was “kicked out” of the restaurant.
She insisted on Watch What Happens Live, “The lights were up [and] they were saying, ‘Everybody wrap it up’…I wasn’t kicked out, but I asked security to help me with my Uber. That was it.”
