Actress Jennifer Tilly disclosed that she received a massive settlement from her divorce from the late co-creator of The Simpsons, Sam Simon. Tilly recently joined The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for its 14th season.

During the episode aired on Dec. 3, the actress joined the rest of the cast on a trip to Mission Pacific Beach Resort in Oceanside, California. While the women talked about divorce, Tilly opened up about her divorce from Simon, who died of colorectal cancer on March 8, 2015.

“It takes a really long time to get over a divorce,” she stated during the episode. “My ex-husband was Sam Simon, who [co-created] The Simpsons. I was married to him for seven years. We were together for about ten years, and then when we got divorced, I got a piece of The Simpsons in the divorce settlement. Nobody knew that The Simpsons was going to go on for trillions of years. Honestly, every day, I’m like, ‘Thank you, Sam!'” Tilly and Simon were married from 1984 to 1991.

Alongside Matt Groening and James L. Brooks, he served as executive producer and showrunner for the show’s first and second seasons and creative supervisor for the first four seasons.

He left the series in 1993, negotiating a deal that left him with $20 million to $30 million yearly from the show’s licensing fees from T-shirts, posters, lunchboxes and other merchandise.

At the time of his death, The Simpsons‘ co-creator donated his entire $100 million fortune to American Atheists, a charity focused on debunking religions.

Despite their divorce, Tilly stayed close to Simon until he died from colon cancer.

Court documents stated that the actress was given 30% of the royalties Fox has given her ex-husband’s estate in the last 34 seasons of The Simpsons.

A modified agreement confirmed that Simon’s death would not impact any of the rights and obligations under the divorce judgment.

In October 2022, she posed for the premiere of Chucky season 2.
