A former Real Housewives of Orange County star suffered a traumatic ordeal Tuesday when a man entered her home, then allegedly held her at gunpoint and attacked her while inside after pursuing her aggressively with financial demands for weeks.

Elizabeth Lyn Vargas briefly dated the man, identified by police as 33-year-old Ryan Geraghty, and assisted him financially, but he quickly grew more obsessed with her and began making larger demands. Vargas called the police on Tuesday to report Geraghty for extortion. Police arrived to take a statement and watched her house from a distance.

Even with cops watching her home, Geraghty was able to get inside Vargas’ house and held her captive for a number of hours. Vargas was eventually released, and police and SWAT presence grew to huge numbers around her home. Geraghty eventually surrendered later after the standoff.

There has been conflicting information as to whether there were one or three individuals who were involved in the break-in, but currently, only Geraghty has been identified. He is being held without bail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, extortion and felony possession of a firearm, said Newport Beach Police.

According to the Vargas’ manager, David Weintraub, Vargas was unharmed but extremely “shaken up.” She spent much of Tuesday night in the police department going over the events with officers.
