Erika Jayne, reality star of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and her lawyer ex-husband, Thomas Girardi, are in the middle of facing embezzlement allegations in a new lawsuit, along with being accused of faking their divorce to aid the embezzlement.
The lawsuit was filed by Illinois law firm, Edelson PC on Wednesday on behalf of victims who lost their lives on Lion Air flight 610 that crashed in October 2018. The plane crashed on October 29, 2018 in the Java Sea, taking the lives of all 198 people onboard. Several of the victims were represented by Girardi’s law firm.
The couple are being accused of using money that should have gone to family members of the victims to continue living their luxury lifestyle and pay off loans to keep Girardi’s law firm running. The lawsuit claims that Payne and Girardi’s divorce is a coverup to hid assets of the money from collectors.
Jayne announced that she filed for a divorce from her husband of 21 years on November 3. “After much consideration, I have decided to end my marriage to Tom Girardi. This is not a step taken lightly or easily,” the reality star told ET, “I have great love and respect for Tom and for our years and the lives we built together. It is my absolute wish to proceed through this process with respect and with the privacy that Tom and I deserved. I request others give us that privacy as well.”
Jayne and Girardi got married in 2000.
