Kim Zolciak-Biermann has apologized for saying racism “wasn’t real” and blamed the show’s editing.
While on the Real Housewives of Atlanta season 10 reunion, the group talked about Zolciak-Biermann making a comment to NeNe Leakes referring to her home as a “roach nest.” It was later suggested to Zolciak-Biermann that her comment was racist. A year ago, Zolciak-Biermann threatened to sue Leakes for calling her family racist.
Once the reunion was filmed, Zolciak-Biermann called the host of the reunion, Andy Cohen, into the bathroom to claim she isn’t racist and that racism only seems prevalent because of social media.
“This whole racism thing in this day in age is bulls—t. Everyone of those motherf——ers on that couch owe this world a f—–king apology for this racism s–t,” Zolciak-Biermann said. “They already tried to claim that s—-t long ago. Nobody bought into it then because the social media wasn’t there and racism wasn’t f–king all that real. You know it.”

Zolciak-Biermann later posted a statement on Instagram apologizing and claimed she understood why people were angry for her comments in the bathroom. “I sincerely apologize. Edited out of context, I understand why my remark angered people.”
She said her “love for all people runs deep” and that she “was heartbroken” to see her words “taken out of context.”
“My comment that seemingly ‘racism didn’t exist 10 years ago’ was made as part of a larger, emotional 45-minute conversation about how, sadly, social media has become a hub for hate,” she said. “Immediately following my confusing comment, I also said that ‘it’s not as real as it is now’ referring to the power of social media. But those remarks didn’t make the show.”
Zolciak-Biermann later doubled-down stating “social media has ” made racism “more real. “Before social media, the public simply served the news. Now, the public actively participated and has an opportunity to take action – in real time,” she said. “But this is a double edged sword. Now, when false accusation are made, the are amplified by online platforms regardless of their merit. This wasn’t the case 10 years ago when I started on RHOA.”
