The day after Bruce Willis revealed that he would be retiring from acting due to struggling with the cognitive condition of aphasia, the Golden Raspberry Awards released a statement on Thursday rescinding the “not appropriate” award he was given after they created an entire category for Willis’ Worst performances of 2021.

The category was called “Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie,” and was poking fun at the high number of critically-panned movies the actor has been appearing in recently. The award was handed out this past Saturday, which went to his role in the science fiction film Cosmic Sin, and organizers of the Razzies quickly came under fire when Willis’ medical condition was revealed days later.

“After much thought and consideration, the Razzies have made the decision to rescind the award given to Bruce Willis, due to his recently disclosed diagnosis,” Razzies co-founders John Wilson and Mo Murphy said. “If someone’s medical condition is a factor in their decision making and/or their performance, we acknowledge that it is not appropriate to give them a Razzie.”

They are also retroactively rescinding Shelley Duvall‘s nomination for Worst Performance from The Shining. Murphy and Wilson said this was because “we have since discovered that Duvall’s performance was impacted by Stanley Kubrick’s treatment of her throughout the production.”

Other, less insensitive winners of the Razzies ceremonies were Diana: The Musical, which won five trophies including Worst Picture, Worst Actress, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay. It’s unfortunate that Netflix won five times as many Razzies as Oscars this year, but you can’t win ’em all. Space Jam: A New Legacy didn’t get off scot-free either, with its star LeBron James getting the Worst Actor prize, and the movie taking the distinguished Worst Remake, Rip-Off, Or Sequel prize.
