Ray Price Dies At 87 After 2 Year Battle With Cancer

Country music legend Ray Price died on Monday afternoon at the age of 87; friend Bill Mack, the official Price family spokesman at this time, confirmed the news.

“Ray Price passed away at 4:43PM today, Monday. Yes, there are tears. However, I must mention once again the fact that Ray was aware of your strong concern, love and prayers. I have never received more emails, telephone calls and ‘postings’ on the Facebook page than I have since the announcement was made that he was rapidly fading. On behalf of Janie and the entire family:
Thank you. I also want to insert my personal gratitude to you. I will post updates as received from the family. Services will be held in Dallas. It’s been a busy few days, but your messages kept me completely refreshed. You people are special,” Mack wrote on Facebook.

Ray Price's Family Speaks

Price’s widow, Janie Price addressed fans on Facebook via Virgie Phillips, who wrote the post for her, on Sunday, expressing her thanks to all the fans who have sent their well wishes.

“I want to thank everyone for their prayers and love that you all have sent to Ray and Janie Price. Janie continues her constant vigil holding Ray’s hand at his bedside despite our urging her to get some rest. We also want to thank our close friends, neighbors and all the Pastors who have brought food and loving support to us during this most difficult time. The Hospice Staff are an exceptionally outstanding group who have never left Ray and Janie’s side,” Phillips wrote late Sunday night.

Price’s son, Cliff Price, took to his father’s Facebook page to share a message for his father, writing simply, “I love you Dad and hope to see you again one day."

Three days ago, news spread that Price had died on Dec. 15, after Cliff Price was misled into believing that his father had died and shared the news on the official Ray Price Facebook page.

Price had been fighting pancreatic cancer since 2011 and was finally moved last week from the hospital and put in hospice care in his Texas home where he died surrounded by friends and family.
