DMX, the rapper best known for his ’90s and ’00s music, was found unresponsive Monday outside of a New York City hotel. He was revived at the scene and is currently recovering.
DMX collapsed outside of a Yonkers Ramada Inn at which he’d been staying for about a week. When police arrived at roughly 6:30 p.m. Monday, he was without a pulse in the parking lot of the hotel. Police were able to revive the rapper by administering Narcan, an opioid reversal drug used in overdose cases.
“That individual was found to be in a lifeless condition with no pulse, no respirations,” Lt. Patrick McCormack told the New York Daily News. “This was an excellent job by the officers and they definitely saved the life.”
After Narcan was administered intravenously, DMX became semi-conscious. Narcan apparently has no effect on a patient who is not overdosing, so the positive outcome with DMX suggests he “ingested something,” a source told the Daily News.
Although DMX had denied taking any drugs ahead of his collapse Monday and relatives claimed that the incident could have been due to his asthma, cops reportedly discovered crack cocaine in his car.
The “Party Up (Up in Here)” artist has a long history of drug use. A couple of years ago, he had discussed his substance abuse issues and run-ins with the law with Dr. Phil. During the interview, he revealed that he was only 8 the first time he tried drugs.
