Rapper Big Paybacc, whose really name was Habeeb Ameer Zekajj, was killed Thursday in a broad daylight shooting while eating lunch, according to The L.A. County Sheriff's Department. The incident took place in the early afternoon at a McDonald’s in Palmdale, Calif. According to witnesses there was no altercation before the shots were fired; the suspect entered the restaurant and opened fire on the 38 year-old rapper and killing him before fleeing on foot.
"This guy just walked in through one door, shot him and left out another door. So it looked like something personal. He had something against this individual. It wasn’t like he shot up the McDonald’s. He just shot him and left," said one witness to CBS News.
No motive is known at this time, though given that there had been no prior warning has led investigators to believe that the shooting was targeted specifically at Paybacc and was premeditated.
Paybacc had been with Jessica Jefferson at her apartment just prior to the incident. She was highly distressed when speaking to the local news.
“I had just seen him. He left my house to come here,” she said.
Jefferson was asked if she knew of anyone that might have had it in for Paybacc.
"Everybody loves him, and he's a good rapper," she said. "He's a good rapper, and he has so many followers and people who stand behind him. He really is a good, solid person."
Big Paybacc was a popular YouTube rapper, known for his 2011 song “Gangsta Luv.” He is survived by his three children.
