Country music star Randy Travis delivered a guitar, along with some furniture, to Officer Keith Bartlett of Gainesville, Texas, after he lost everything in a house fire.
Bartlett had assisted the Travises a few years back when police responded to a robbery at the Travis home. Randy and his wife Mary Travis were heartbroken to hear of Bartlett’s misfortune.
“When we saw [the news], it broke my heart,” Mary said. “Since [Randy’s] stroke, I just know how important music is, what therapy it is, especially at a time like this.”
Randy suffered a stroke in 2013 and has been slowly recovering since. He was able to sing a few lines of “Amazing Grace” upon his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year.
The Travises got Gibson to replace the acoustic guitar that Bartlett lost in the fire, and presented it to him. “Oh, you didn’t,” the officer said, teary eyed, before sitting down to play.
The Bartlett family, consisting of Keith, his wife, and their five children, have already raised more than $39,000 to help them rebuild their home.
