Queen Guitarist Brian Harold May Hospitalized After ‘Over-Enthusiastic Gardening’

Queen guitarist Brian Harold May reported that he was hospitalized for ripping his glutes “in a moment of over-enthusiastic gardening” in an Instagram post on Thursday.

The post first shows May in a face mask and then appears to show his point of view while being pushed in a wheelchair in a hospital.

“Yes, I’ve been quiet,” May wrote in the caption. “Reason? As well as getting over-stretched and harassed by too many demands … I managed to rip my Gluteus Maximus to shreds in a moment of over-enthusiastic gardening.”

He quelled fans fears by saying he did not have COVID-19.

“No – the Virus didn’t get me yet – thank God. Hope you’re all keeping extra-safe out there,” he sad.

The musician, who is also an astrophysicist, continued on in the post saying: “Turns out I did a thorough job – this is a couple of days ago – and I won’t be able to walk for a while … or sleep, without a lot of assistance, because the pain is relentless.”

He told fans that he may be off of social media for a while as he recovers.

“So, folks … I need to go dark for a while, getting some complete rest, at home. Please, please don’t send me sympathy – I just need some healing silence for a while,” he wrote.

He signed off saying, “I’ll be back – but I need the complete break. OK ? Thanks. Take care out there.”

But, he has posted some clips of himself since alerting followers of his accident, including two clips urging viewers to “rethink Britain,” in which he talks about climate change and veganism.

He also posted that Planet Rock, a UK radio station, has made May 8 “Brian May Day.” So, luckily for May’s fans, going “dark for a while” didn’t mean totally saying goodbye.

  • Hi and good wishes to you and your family. It is very scary to say the least. Taring your Gluts is a horrible experience. I've torn two of the three. Healing is a must. You cannot tare them once they have been put back in place. They are stretched to repair them. Please listen to all that the doctor tells you, Getting up, walking and moving from side to side is supported by the gluts. Stay safe and well as you heal. God bless and continued healing.
