PSN And XBox Live Servers Still Hacked

The band of hackers called Lizard Squad, which has plagued Sony in the past, has taken credit for the latest PSN hack and for the XBox Live hack as well, that brought down both servers three days ago. It has been theorized that the hack job was part of the response to The Interview, the Seth Rogen/James Franco comedy that lambasts North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un. Though many theaters decided not to show the film, streaming services like XBox Live have made the movie available since Monday. The theory has its flaws, however; The Interview is not available on the PSN, while YouTube and Google Play, which are also streaming the film, have not been attacked at all.

Meantime, fans have run out of patience with the situation. While XBox Live’s servers are becoming somewhat more functional, Sony’s PSN is still offline, and their Twitter account has not been the most forthcoming. Their last update was four hours ago, where they asked fans to follow their @AskPlaystation account, which hasn’t been updated in 14 hours.

After recovering from a six-hour outage last night, the PSN was back down again this morning. When contacted directly on Twitter, the usual response is a vague “We are aware that some users are unable to access at the moment. Our technicians are working to fix this issue,” or the more terse, “There is no time frame at the moment, stay tune for updates.”
