A group of nearly two dozen people gathered just outside a Jason Aldean concert in Tinley Park, a town near Chicago. The protest group was led by Revolution Club Chicago, a Communist organization.
In a video showing the protests, the protesters can be seen marching, chanting and burning the American flag. There weren’t any conflicts between the protestors and concertgoers.
The protest group was likely responding to Aldean’s controversial single “Try That In A Small Town,” which garnered substantial criticism. In the song, Aldean advises people against disrespecting the police, committing robberies and burning the American flag. The music video included imagery of protests and flag burnings has earned 35 million views. Many saw the video as promoting the lynching of black people.
“Try That in a Small Town” peaked at number one on the Billboard Top 100 chart.
Aldean recently defended the song at a concert. “What I am is a proud American. I’m proud to be from here. I love our country,” he said. “I want to see it restored to what it once was before all this bulls— started happening to us. I love my country, I love my family, and I will do anything to protect that, I can tell you that right now.”
Aldean is currently on a months-long Highway Desperado Tour, which is due to finish in Tampa, Florida, on November 26.
