Prosecutors have dropped all felony domestic violence charges against Rick and Morty co-creator, Justin Roiland, who voiced both the main characters of the hit animated show and was previously facing charges for the domestic battery and false imprisonment of a woman he had been dating in 2020.
The 43-year-old voice actor had pleaded not guilty to two felony domestic violence charges and was released on a $50,000 bond in 2020. News about the reported incident and felony charges did not publicly emerge until January after Roiland appeared in court for a pre-trial hearing.

After several court hearings, a representative for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Kimberly Edds, announced on Wednesday that they have dismissed all charges against Roiland after determining that they had insufficient evidence to support the allegations in court. Edds also revealed that the decision was made after “significant additional information came to light,” but did not further elaborate on the matter.
The Emmy-winning animator took to Twitter to react to the dropped charges and released a statement claiming he had “always known that these claims were false,” and that he is “determined to move forward and focus both on my creative projects and restoring my good name.”
Roiland also expresses his disappointment that “so many people were so quick to judge”, which may have been a reference to Adult Swim, which distributes Rick and Morty, announcing that they have terminated their relationship with him.
