Priyanka Chopra volunteered herself to play Batgirl in the recently announced Joss Whedon film.
Chopra, 34, is currently starring in Baywatch alongside Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson, and has tossed her name into the Batgirl ring. “My dream part is, now that I’m working in America, I definitely want to do a superhero part,” the actress has said. “When I think of American movies, they’ve had superheroes for eons right? So I definitely want to play a superhero and I want to have an interesting super power. I don’t know… Batgirl would be so cool!”
Batgirl has been portrayed twice on screen in recent years – once by Alicia Silverstone (as Barbara Wilson) in Batman & Robin and once by Rosario Dawson in the Lego Batman Movie. No casting has yet been done for the Whedon flick.
The storyline will reportedly be set from Barbara Gordon’s in the New 52 comic book by Gail Simone. Chopra is best known as the leading role on ABC drama Quantico, which she has been in since 2015. She is currently in talks for multiple film roles, and there are no plans for her to play Batgirl as of yet.
