The stars of Sofia Coppola‘s new film, Priscilla, attended the 80th Venice International Film Festival on Monday.

Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny, who play Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley in the film, respectively, joined Coppola and real-life Priscilla on the red carpet.

Priscilla is a biopic and will recount Priscilla’s romance with Elvis, which began when she was 14 years old. It is also based on the memoir Elvis and Me, written by Priscilla and Emmy Award-winning television writer and producer Sandra Harmon.

While Priscilla praised Spaeny’s performance in the film, she told Hollywood Reporter that it was “very difficult to watch a film about you and about your life and about your love.”

Priscilla also said that her parents did not understand why Elvis had taken an interest in her and explained that between her and Elvis, she was the listener.

“Elvis would pour his heart out to me,” she said. “His hopes, his fears, his loss of his mother. And I was the person who really sat there to listen and to comfort him. That was really our connection. Even though I was 14, I was older in life than in years. And that was the attraction.”

“People think, ‘Oh, it was sex, it was this.’ Not at all,” Priscilla continued. “I never had sex with him. He was very kind, very soft, very loving. But he also respected the fact I was only 14 years old.”

“We were more in mind and thought, and that was our relationship,” she added.

Elvis and Priscilla were married for five years before filing for divorce in 1972. They shared one daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, who died in January this year from small bowel obstruction.

Lisa Marie’s daughter, Riley Keough, paid her grandmother Priscilla $1 million in June after a legal battle over Elvis’ estate.

Priscilla is set to be released in theaters on October 27 nationwide.
