'Princess Zhaojun' Theater Review: Traditional Chinese Dance Drama Delivers A Night Of Wonders
Princess Zhaojun, a production of the Chinese National Opera & Dance Drama Theater, concluded a specular four-night run this weekend at Lincoln Center’s David Koch Theater. The dance drama, which uses traditional Chinese music, costumes and choreography, tells the story of a real-life concubine, Wang Zhaojun, who gives up the comfort of court life to the travel to the war-ravaged northern border of China. Directed and choreographed by Kong Dexin, a descendant of Confucius himself, delivers an unforgettable night of gorgeous costumes and charming traditional dance. Wang’s selfless story is beautifully brought to life through the medium of dance.
