The girlfriend of Princess Diana’s younger brother, Earl Charles Spencer, is suing his estranged wife for the “misuse of private information.”
The lawsuit was filed by Prof. Catrine Jarman on Oct. 10. No further information regarding the suit has been released.
Charles first announced his plans to divorce Countess Karen Spencer in June. The marriage was reportedly strained by Charles’ new memoir, A Very Private School, which was released in March and discusses the sexual abuse he suffered while at boarding school in the 1970s.
The two met on a blind date in Los Angeles in 2010 and married the following year. They share one 12-year-old daughter, Lady Charlotte Diana.
“It is immensely sad,” Charles said of his divorce in June. “I just want to devote myself to all my children, and to my grandchildren, and I wish Karen every happiness in the future.”
In addition to Charlotte, Charles has six children from his previous two marriages.
Jarman, an archaeologist, and Charles met when she came to his family home, Althorp, to search for the remains of an ancient Roman villa. After dodging dating rumors for months, the couple finally addressed their relationship during an interview with The Times last week.
Despite her husband’s separation, Karen is still living at Althorp. In August, she opened up about the divorce on Instagram.
“[A]s we move into fall, I look forward to closing this chapter out with you all and launching the next,” she said. “I will be sharing an update on my projects and reflecting on all the wonderful things I have learned during my time here on this beautiful Estate.”
Charles recently asked Diana’s son, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan Markle, to spend Christmas at Althrope after they were snubbed by the royal family.
