Prince’s famed yellow guitar is set to be sold at an auction next month.
The guitar is a custom instrument the rock singer used during the the ’80s and ’90s. The guitar’s unique build and bright color became something of a symbol for Prince. The guitar’s neck was broken in France in 1994 but later repaired.
The item will be sold by Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills, California, on June 24. It has an opening bid of $30,000 (£20k).
“I’ve been a Prince fan since I was a little kid, and that guitar always stuck out to me because it was super cool and stylish,” said the guitar’s current owner Richard Leece.
“Unfortunately, as morbid as it is, when people pass, their items become more valuable,” Leece, who purchased the guitar a year ago, explained. “I think something as valuable as this could be too risky to continue to have in my possession.”
Other items for sale include record sales awards belonging to Prince and a demo tape featuring the songs ‘’Just As Long as We’re Together,’’ ‘’My Love Is Forever’’ and ‘’Jelly Jam.”
