Dr. Michael Schulenberg and Dr. Howard Kornfeld — the two doctors who treated Prince before his death — are now the focus of a criminal investigation, according to reports on Friday.
The FBI, DEA and Carver County District Attorney’s Office in Minnesota are investigating Schulenberg and Kornfeld, over meds prescribed to Prince.
The rock singer— rumored to have been suffering from hip pain — died on April 21 from an accidental overdose of the opioid painkiller fentanyl.
Schulenberg reportedly treated Prince at least twice in the weeks prior to his death, and said he had returned the day of Prince’s collapse to deliver test results.
Schulenberg hasn’t been seen at his Minnetonka, Minn., clinic since Prince’s death.
Kornfeld, whom Prince’s team called April 20 to allegedly set up an emergency intervention, had sent his son Andrew Kornfeld to the singer’s Paisley Park estate with the opioid addiction treatment buprenorphine.
Andrew reportedly arrived before he could administer the medication, calling 911 after he discovered Prince’s body in an elevator.
Kornfeld has continued practicing at his Mill Valley, Calif., clinic.
Dr. Conrad Murray — who was jailed two years after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter for secretly administering Michael Jackson propofol as a sleep aid — said in May that Schulenberg would need a good attorney.
“I would say clearly he needs an attorney, and a good one, because we have what we call ‘regular justice’ and ‘celebrity justice,’” Murray told Inside Edition.
