Former Beatles’ drummer Ringo Starr, who will now be known as Sir Ringo, was knighted by Prince William on Tuesday morning.
The Duke of Cambridge stood in for his grandmother Queen Elizabeth in handing out awards this morning. Starr was awarded knighthood for his services to music after a career of more than 50 years with fellow Beatles members. He is one of many musical knights such as Elton John, Rod Stewart and Mick Jagger. Starr is the second member of the band to receive this honor following Paul McCartney who received knighthood back in 1997.

“It means a lot actually,” the newly titled Sir told the BBC. “It means recognition for the things we’ve done. I was really pleased to accept this.” When asked if he will be using the title Sir now, he jokingly tells reporters, “I expect you to use it.”
This was not the first time Starr and the band were recognized by British royalty, as they all became Members of the British Order by the Queen in 1965.
