Prince William and Kate Middleton visited Newham ambulance station in East London on Thursday to talk with members of the ambulance service.
During the visit, The Duke and Duchess met with ambulance staff and paramedics to hear more about their experiences of working during the pandemic and about the mental health and wellbeing support provided at the Station and through the London Ambulance Service.
The couple listened to paramedic Jay Khan about how she has dealt with the pandemic and what it’s been like to isolate from her family. They also spoke to Khan’s father, Abu, sister Nasrin and granddad Baharam over FaceTime.
William and Kate learned about the mental health resources available to staff at the station, including a Wellbeing Tea Truck. The trucks stop at hospitals and provide warm drinks and snacks to ambulance staff and volunteers.
Paramedic Shani Smith spoke with William and Kate about her involvement with the trucks and what it’s been like organizing one.
Recently, William and Kate have been dealing with the fallout from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey. In response to claims that the Royal family questioned Harry and Markle’s son’s skin color, William said the Royal family is “not racist”.
