Prince William Covers Gay Magazine ‘Attitude’

Prince William has made history as the first royal to pose for an LGBT magazine by covering British publication Attitude.

Prince William Covers Gay Magazine ‘Attitude’

William sat down with Attitude at Kensington Palace earlier this year, where nine LGBT people spoke about their experiences with being bullied. The open discussion was part of Prince William, his wife Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince Harry‘s joint efforts to raise awareness of mental health issues.

“No one should be bullied for their sexuality or any other reason and no one should have to put up with the kind of hate that these young people have endured in their lives,” the Duke of Cambridge said. “The young gay, lesbian and transgender individuals I met through Attitude are truly brave to speak out and to give hope to people who are going through terrible bullying right now,” he added.

He added, “Their sense of strength and optimism should give us all encouragement to stand up to bullying wherever we see it. You should be proud of the person you are and you have nothing to be ashamed of.”

Attitude editor Matthew Todd had nothing but good things to say about William. Todd believes that, unlike some famous people championing a cause, William is genuinely invested in helping to fight the stigma of mental illness and to end the bullying epidemic.

“I was completely bowled over by him. He was absolutely passionate, compassionate and relaxed. Someone got upset during the conversation and he said, ‘It’s okay to cry. You can cry and be strong,'” Todd told People magazine. “You can tell when a celebrity or a politician is paying lip service to something, but I absolutely felt he meant it and you can see people’s mental health is important to him. There is a head of steam about this issue building which is exciting.”
