Nothing like a little friendly competition to keep a marriage interesting, at least that's how the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, see it. The two went head-to-head at the Prince Edward Island boat race on Dalvay Lake in Canada on Monday.
Though they were both teamed up with local athletes for the event, the two had vastly different levels of confidence about the competition. "We are, of course!" William told People when asked which team was going to win. Kate, on the other hand, was a little more reserved when answering the same question. "Not sure about that," she said. "I'm feeling slightly nervous."
William may have reveled in his victory after his team beat Middleton's by a third of a length, accepting his reward of a bottle of champagne and declaring, "No chivalry!" to the crowd, but his actions spoke louder as he greeted his wife with a warm hug when they reunited on land.
Good-natured sporting events aren't all that's in store for the royal couple, however. On Sunday they were photographed attending a morning prayer service at Champlain Harbour Station in Quebec City. Next they will visit Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest Territories, as part of their 11-day North American tour. Also on the schedule is a trip to the airfield where Kate's grandfather served as a trainee pilot during World War II.
On Friday the duo will touch down in Los Angeles, where they will have only a brief stay. "The couple view this as a working visit, not as an opportunity for them to meet celebrities," a palace source said. Among their goals is to help promote the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
