Prince and Stevie Wonder reportedly played a secret concert for President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama and guests at the White House over the weekend.
The President and First Lady reportedly invited a handful of famous guests, including Ava DuVernay, Russell Wilson and Ciara, over for a private party on Saturday night. While Obama remained silent on the party, guests gushed over the event on social media, alerting the public.
On Monday, the White House confirmed that the Obamas had hosted a private party over the weekend, but did not comment on the rumored concert. Earnest refused to give out more details, and stressed the “private nature” of the White House event, which DuVernay called “one of the best house parties.”
“The President and the First Lady reserve the right to hold private parties at the White House, and they did it on their own dime,” confirmed White House press secretary Josh Earnest on Monday.
Sources reported that 500 guests were in attendance to watch Prince and Stevie Wonder perform and dance the night away with President Obama and the First Lady. The night featured a two-hour concert from the music legends and the two reportedly sang a duet version of Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” – Obama’s 2008 campaign song. Connie Britton, Angela Bassett, Gayle King, Tracee Ellis Ross and Jon Bon Jovi were reportedly in attendance.
