Prince bought the white Minneapolis house that was featured in his hit 1984 film Purple Rain — eight months before his death, according to reports on Tuesday.
Prince reportedly paid $117,000 in cash last August for the two-story home — which was widely used in Prince’s film Purple Rain.
“I don’t think he had a plan, I think he just wanted it,” selling agent Deborah Larson of real-estate firm Coldwell Banker Burnet told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Larson explained that she got a surprise call from a woman asking about the home when it was listed one year ago. The woman offered to pay outright, but Larson was cautious after getting inquiries from Prince fans who weren’t serious.
Larson soon found out, as the process moved forward with the sale, that the name on the documents was: Prince’s NPG Music Publishing.
Prince ended up buying the three-bedroom house, which was listed as needing repairs, for more than the $110,000 the seller was seeking.
Following the singer’s death, the property became a part of Prince’s estate. Prince never lived in the property and it is unclear what the plans were for the house.
