Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh left King Edward VII Hospital in London on March 16 after a month-long stay.
Phillip was discharged from the hospital and has returned to Windsor Castle, following treatment for an infection and a successful procedure for a pre-existing condition.
“The Duke of Edinburgh has today been discharged from King Edward VII’s Hospital and has returned to Windsor Castle, following treatment for an infection and a successful procedure for a pre-existing condition,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement. “His Royal Highness wishes to thank all the medical staff who looked after him at both King Edward VII’s Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and everyone who has sent their good wishes.”
Phillip’s son, Prince Charles said he was “thrilled” about his father’s discharge.
Phillip went to King Edward VII’s hospital on Feb. 16 as a precautionary measure after he reported feeling unwell, according to Buckingham Palace. He was transferred to St. Bartholomew’s hospital on March 1 so the doctors could “continue to treat him for an infection, as well as undertake testing and observation for a pre-existing heart condition.”
At St. Bartholomew’s, Phillip underwent a successful surgery for a pre-existing heart condition. He was transferred back to King Edward VII’s hospital on March 5 “for continuing treatment for a number of days.”
A Royal source said Phillip’s hospitalization was not COVID-19 related. Both Philip and Queen Elizabeth have been vaccinated for COVID-19. He is turning 100 years old in June.
