Two weeks after Prince Philip was admitted into a London hospital as a precaution after he felt unwell, the Duke of Edinburgh received treatment and underwent heart tests on Tuesday
The 99-year old husband to Queen Elizabeth was transferred on Monday from the private King Edward VII hospital to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. The hospital is known to specialize in cardiac care, the Duke of Edinburgh was being tested for a pre-existing heart condition and received treatment for an unspecified infection, not related to COVID-19.
His two-week hospital visit was the longest Prince Philip has needed immediate medical treatment, although Buckingham Palace stated that the prince has been comfortable and has responded well to treatment.
It is expected that he will remain in the hospital until at least the end of the week, but his youngest son, Prince Edward said that his father was feeling better.
The Queen, 94, has remained at Windsor Castle to continue to carry out her official duties remotely. The United Kingdom is currently in their third national lockdown due to the coronavirus, but both Elizabeth and Philip have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
While Prince Charles was able to visit his father at King Edward VII’s Hospital, at St. Bartholomew’s, visitors are only allowed to see patients when they are on their deathbed.
