Prince Harry has spoke about how his marriage to Meghan Markle taught him what unconscious bias is. The interview, conducted by Black Lives Matter activist Patrick Hutchinson, is a part of GQ‘s larger 2020 Heroes Conference series.

“Unconscious bias, from my understanding, having had the upbringing and the education that I have, I had no idea what it was,” Harry said in the interview. “I had no idea it existed and then, sad as it is to say, it took me many, many years to realize it, especially then living a day or a week in my wife’s shoes.”

Prince Harry stepped back from his royal duties with Markel just earlier this year, and since then has moved to Santa Barbara, California. In the interview, he spoke to what living with Markel has been like, as well his thoughts on the London BLM protests and the bias in the media.

Reception of the interview was mixed, and his comments on racism were only well received by some.

The general response, however, has been the continued circulation of the (mostly satirical) conspiracy that Markle is forcing Harry to live with her and make their social media videos.
