Scotland Yard is currently investigating after a letter containing white powder was mailed to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The letter was addressed to the couple, but it of course didn’t reach them, as the all packages and letters are intercepted and scanned before being sent on to members of the royal family. The letter allegedly contained a racist message and white powder, which led to an anthrax and security scare. The powder has since been deemed harmless, and police are calling the act a “racist hate crime.”

The letter made its way to St. James’s Palace for sorting on Feb. 12 when the Metropolitan Police’s counter-terrorism command was called in. Harry, 33, and Markle, 36, are understood to have been informed.
Additionally, on Feb. 13, police revealed that a package holding a similar white powder was mailed to Parliament, reportedly to the office of Home Secretary Amber Rudd. That substance was also deemed to be harmless. Police are currently investigating if the two events are linked. No arrests have been made.
While Kensington Palace is attempting to downplay the letter, the police have been put on high alert before Harry and Markle’s royal wedding on May 19. Security for their wedding day is being planned, and will account for threats ranging from terrorist attacks to obsessed stalkers. The Thames Valley Police has reportedly purchased a net of spikes with the ability to stop a 17-ton vehicle, and can be deployed in under one minute.
The couple are set to ride around in a carriage on a public route after saying “I do” in St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. They will pass Castle Hill, High Street, Sheet Street, Kings Road and Albert Road before taking the Long Walk in their return to the castle.
