Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not join the Royal Family for Christmas at Sandringham this year, as they have reportedly not been invited. Instead, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to celebrate the holidays in the United States with their children, Archie and Lilibet.
The couple has not spent Christmas with the Royal Family in the U.K. for six years, last attending the annual Sandringham festivities in 2018 and 2019.
Since stepping down as senior royals in 2020, Harry and Meghan have celebrated holidays at their California home, emphasizing traditions such as leaving “carrots for the reindeer” and inviting friends without family, including feminist icon Gloria Steinem, to their gatherings.
The royal Christmas celebrations will be attended by senior members of the family, including Prince William, Princess Kate, and their children. According to The Mirror, King Charles is “delighted” to host the family at Sandringham after a challenging year marked by his and Kate’s cancer diagnoses.
Charles, 76, is reportedly overseeing the holiday preparations himself as he continues his treatment for an undisclosed cancer.
Harry’s uncle, Charles Spenser, reportedly invited the couple to his home in England.
Kate, who announced in September her gradual return to public life after completing preventative chemotherapy, is also preparing for her first significant public engagement since her diagnosis. She will welcome the Emir of Qatar during his state visit on December 3 but will skip the evening State Banquet.
Harry and Meghan recently purchased a $4.7 million estate in Portugal.
