Prince Harry, 33, and his actress girlfriend Meghan Markle, 36, became engaged over the weekend.

PRINCE HARRY AND MEGHAN MARKLE ENGAGED

The Prince of Wales, who is currently fifth in line for the throne of England, will marry the Suits actress in spring 2018. The couple has been dating for about a year and a half, and were spotted taking engagement pictures outside of their home in Kensington Palace. Harry admitted it had been a romantic proposal, though the details have not been shared.

Their married home will be the Prince’s current residence, Nottingham Cottage within the grounds of the Palace. Prince William and Kate Middleton, and their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, also currently have a residence there.

Queen Elizabeth II and husband Prince Philip say they are excited about the engagement, and are “delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness,” according to a Buckingham Palace spokesperson. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge add, “It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.”

Markle’s parents, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland also gave their blessing to the couple. “We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry. Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents,” they said. “We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.”

The Prince and Markle made their first official appearance together as a couple back in September at the opening ceremonies of the Invictus Games in Toronto. When asked by reporters when Harry knew Markle was “the one,” he responded “the very first time we met,” with a smile.

Markle’s ring was designed by her husband-to-be himself. It features a center stone from Botswana, a place special to Harry and his anti-poaching initiatives. The two outside diamonds are from his late mother Princess Diana’s collection.
