Prince Harry Designed Meghan Markle’s Engagement Ring With Princess Diana Diamonds

Prince Harry designed the engagement ring he gave to fiancée Meghan Markle when he proposed and experts are calling it “priceless.”

The ring is made up of three diamonds – the central stone from Botswana, a place close to Harry’s heart, and the two side stones come from his late mother Princess Diana’s collection. “There is no way for anyone to put a value on the whole ring. Having diamonds form the royal collection that Princess Diana wore makes the ring priceless,” said Diamond Pro CEO Michael Fried. “A three-carat diamond like that should cost around $200,000, through the diamond qualities us non-Royal folk usually go with would allow us to get a similar sized diamond for about $80,000.”

The ring is yellow gold, Markle’s favorite according to the prince. In their exclusive interview, Markle and Harry spoke about the significance of the ring and its ties to Diana.

“I think everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of that and obviously not being able to meet his mom, it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us,” she said. “I think in being able to meet his aunts and other people important to his mom, I’m able to in some way know a part of her through them and of course through him, and it’s incredibly special to be able to have this which links where you come from and Botswana which is important to us, and it’s perfect.”

“I think they would be thick as thieves,” Harry joked when asked what his mother would have thought of his fiancée. “I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, so excited for me, and would have probably been best friends with Meghan. It is days like today when I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news, but with the ring and everything, I’m sure she’s with us,” he added.

The couple also spoke about the proposal, which occurred a few weeks ago. They were at home “trying to roast a chicken,” when the prince got down on one knee. “She didn’t let me finish,” Harry shared. “She said, ‘Can I say yes? Can I say yes?’ Then there was hugs and I had the ring on my finger and I said, ‘Can I give you the ring?’ And she said, ‘Oh yes, the ring!’ It was a really nice moment.”

The wedding is planned for late spring of next year.
