Prince Harry Defends Girlfriend Meghan Markle From Racist And Sexist Media Attacks

Since rumors spread of 35-year-old Suits actress Meghan Markle dating 32-year-old Prince Harry, gossip magazines and paparazzi have been following Markle.

The media has been incessantly harassing Markle and her mother for details and pictures, with some headlines even saying racist things about the actress whose mother is African-American and whose father is of Dutch and Irish descent. The media has even offered bribes to Markle’s ex-boyfriends for details about her life. Harry has condemned such behavior, and his spokesperson released a statement on the matter.

“His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment,” read the statement, which for the first time confirmed the couple’s relationship. “Some of this has been very public – the smear on the front page of a national newspaper, the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.

“Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her,” the statement continued. “It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game.’ He strongly disagrees. This is not a game – it is her life and his.”

Harry hopes that this statement will force the media to reconsider future tirades about rumors before causing any more damage.
