Prince Harry could lose his U.S. visa as a result of his memoir, Spare.
The Duke of Sussex’s memoir, which caused a fight between him and his ghostwriter, reveals phases in his life where he used drugs such as cocaine, marijuana and magic mushrooms.
“Of course I had been taking cocaine at that time,” the prince wrote in his autobiography. “At someone’s house, during a hunting weekend, I was offered a line, and since then I had consumed some more.”
In his interview with Oprah Winfrey, he also spoke about his drug and alcohol use to manage life as a member of the British royal family.
“I was willing to drink, I was willing to take drugs,” he told Winfrey. “I was willing to try and do the things that made me feel less like I was feeling.”
Although it’s clear the prince isn’t hiding his drug use, the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank based in Washington D.C., is questioning the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) decision to grant him a U.S. visa even with the knowledge of his previous drug use. According to U.S. immigration law, past drug use can be grounds to reject an application.

The lawsuit called the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), was filed to force the release of the prince’s immigration records. Court documents state that releasing his records is of “immense public interest.”
The Heritage Foundation and DHS officials appeared on June 6 for a hearing at the U.S. District Court in D.C.
