Prince Harry Admits Having Used Drugs In New Interview

Prince Harry has opened up to Oprah Winfrey about his feelings during his time as a royal alongside wife Meghan Markle, saying that finding help to improve their mental health was unattainable while he was a full-time royal.

The Me You Can’t See was released on May 21 on Apple TV+ and was co-created by Winfrey and Harry. Throughout the series, Harry talks about the decline of his mental health and how he sought help through therapy and talks about what it is like to grow up in the Royal Family.

“People are who hurt, understandably hurt, from their upbringing, their environment, what’s happened to them, what they’ve been exposed to, what they’ve seen – whatever it is – if you don’t transform, if you don’t process it, then it ends up coming out and in all sorts of different ways and you can’t control,” he said.

His mental health began to suffer at the age of 12, when his mother, Princess Diana, died in August 1997.

When he started attending therapy, Harry says he had a “fear of losing.”

“I wasn’t in an environment where it was encouraged to talk about it either,” he explained.

Harry believes that the main reason he needed therapy was because of his mother’s death, “to heal from the past.” There were times where he avoided talking about her because it triggered him.

He remembered thinking, “What’s the point in thinking about something sad? What’s the point in thinking about someone that you’ve lost and you’re never going to get back again?” Harry claims no one was talking about it either, which was another reason as to why he didn’t bring up the subject.

According to Harry, his family told him to deal with it, giving him no further advice or consolation.

“Family members have said just play the game and your life will be easier,” he explained.

The prince recalls he used alcohol and drugs as a coping mechanism and a way to escape the reality of how he felt.

“I was willing to drink, I was willing to take drugs, I was willing to try and do the things that made me feel less like I was feeling,” he said.
