Prince‘s sister Tyka Nelson does not believe that her late brother had a will ready at the time of his untimely death at age 57 last week.
Nelson filed court documents Tuesday in Carver County, Minn. – where Prince’s Paisley Park estate is located – to open a probate case, reported CNN. “I do not know of the existence of a Will and have no reason to believe that the Decedent executed testamentary documents in any form,” Nelson states in the filing.
It has been estimated that Prince was worth anywhere between $100 million and $300 million. And, it is expected that his estate will grow with his passing and the consequent uptick in record sales. It is also alleged that Prince had ample unreleased content in a vault at his estate.
Prince was not married at the time of his death, nor did he have any surviving children or parents. Nelson is his only surviving full sibling. Prince is also survived by half siblings John Nelson, Norrine Nelson, Sharon Nelson, Alfred Jackson and Omar Baker, who in addition to Tyka Nelson, are named as heirs in the petition.
Tyka Nelson has requested the appointment of a special administrator to handle Prince’s estate and assets.
While Prince’s sister does not believe that he left a will, it’s still possible that one will turn up. If one does, the estate will be handled accordingly.
“Just because she thinks there’s no will, doesn’t mean there’s no trust out there,” said estate planner Danielle Mayoras told CNN.
