Prince’s autopsy was completed on Friday by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, but cause of death has not been revealed.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office announced the completion of Prince’s autopsy in a press release.
The press release omits the cause of death but states that anything relevant to the investigation into the singer’s death would be taken to the authorities. Prince’s body was released to his family after the autopsy was completed.
Prince’s autopsy was performed by Chief Medical Examiner A. Quinn Strobl, who notes that the Examiner’s Office will not release information until the results are obtained.
The results of the autopsy can take several days and full toxicology reports could take several weeks.
Prince’s publicist confirmed that he had died on Thursday, April 21, at his Paisley Park home in Minnesota.
The star had been battling the flu for weeks and his private plane was forced to make an emergency landing on Friday, April 15, as he was rushed to a local hospital in Moline, Illinois.
TMZ reported that Prince overdosed on Percocet days before his death and he ingested so much, EMTs had to administer a “save shot” at the airport where his plane made the emergency landing.
Prince had been traveling back from what would become his final concert in Atlanta, which took place on April 14.
According to one concert-goer, there was no indication that Prince was sick when he performed.
“There was a tiny bit of gravel in his voice from time to time, but that was the only indication that he’d felt ill the week before,” the concertgoer told People. “He left everything on the stage, like he always did.”
