Prince was found unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minn., Thursday morning. The man who found him called 911, but it was too late to save the “Purple Rain” singer.

Prince 911 Call

An unidentified male at Prince’s Paisley Park estate and studio called 911 at 9:43 Thursday morning. Talking to the Carver County, Minn., Sheriff’s Office, he said, “Hi there, um, what’s the address, here? Yea we need an ambulance right now,” adding. “We have someone who is unconscious.”

Unaware of the exact address of the residence, he told the inquiring dispatcher, “Um, we’re at Prince’s house.” While trying to locate mail from which to find an address, the person on the phone stated, “Yea, we have um, yea, we have um, so, yea, um, the person is dead here. […] And the people are just distraught.”

When asked if he knew of a cause of death, the male said, “I don’t know, I don’t know.”

After it was determined that were are at Paisley Park, the caller clarified that he was with the deceased and who it was. “Yes, it’s Prince,” he said.

The call between the dispatcher and the ambulance dispatcher further revealed that by the time authorities arrived at the scene, Prince was already deceased. “You can cancel anybody going to Aubudon,” the ambulance dispatcher relayed. “Confirmed DOA.”

As of yet, it’s unknown what caused Prince’s death. There had been reports over the last week that he was suffering from flu-like symptoms. It has more recently been reported that Prince may have been hospitalized for an opiate overdose rather than a severe flu. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday morning.
