President Joe Biden’s German shepherd, Commander, bit a U.S. Secret Service agent at the White House on Monday evening. This marks the dog’s 11th known incident of this sort.
“Yesterday around 8:00 p.m., a Secret Service Uniformed Division police officer came in contact with a First Family pet and was bitten. The officer was treated by medical personnel on complex,” USSS chief of communications Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement.
Commander has bitten government personnel at least 11 other times, both at the White House and at Biden’s Delaware home. One officer was even hospitalized in 2022 after the dog bit his arms and thighs.
In July, White House officials claimed that the First Family was experimenting with new training and leashing protocols for Commander. According to the communications director for the First Lady Elizabeth Alexander, the Bidens are continuing to “work on ways to help Commander handle the often unpredictable nature of the White House grounds.”
According to Guglielmi, the officer injured in Monday’s events is doing well.
