Every politician knows that the best way to target a young audience is to appear on a late night talk show, and that's just what President Barack Obama, 50, is doing with his scheduled appearance on Tuesday night's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on NBC to talk about the upcoming expiration of the 3.4 percent student loan interest rate — a provision that was instituted in 2007.
Obama's appearance on Jimmy Fallon's late-night show will be part of a three-stop college tour the President is doing on Tuesday and Wednesday, and it will air in a taped segment from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, reports NBC.com.
Both Fallon and White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer tweeted a confirmation of Obama's visit on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. "The President of the United States!?!?! @BarackObama see you Tuesday!!!" Fallon tweeted, followed by the hashtag, #obamaonfallon.
Pfeiffer's message about Obama's appearance was a little more formal: "Pres Obama will appear on @jimmyfallon on Tuesday at UNC Chapel Hill to talk abt preventing interest rates from doubling on student loans," Pfeiffer tweeted.
This will be Obama's first appearance on Fallon's show, though in February Fallon hosted First Lady Michelle Obama. Fallon has also hosted such political figures as Donald Trump, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, on the late-night program.
