The Big Bang Theory
A prequel spinoff of hit comedy The Big Bang Theory is in development, according to reports Wednesday.
The prequel, which would be called Sheldon, would center on the 12-year-old version of the asocial genius played by Emmy winner Jim Parsons. Bang co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, along with executive producer Steven Molaro, are said to be developing the spinoff with Parsons. No other current cast members are as of yet involved in the new show. A script has not been written, and neither Bang broadcaster CBS nor producer Warner Bros. has commented on the potential new series.
Bang, which is currently in its 10th season, has an uncertain future as it is, with its current deal expiring after this season ends. New contracts would have to be negotiated to keep the show going, but the spinoff and originally could theoretically exist at the same time.
“Talk of ending does seem premature to me, even a decade in,” said Parsons of Bang. “If [the writers] remain inspired the way they have, then there’s not a lot to do but just have fun, because the scripts are a pleasure to put on.”
