Plus-Sized Influencer Jaelynn Chaney Calls Out ‘Fat-Phobic’ Critics Who Think She Should Lose Weight Or Pay Extra For Plane Seats

Jaelynn Chaney, a plus-sized travel blogger, hit back at “fat phobic” critics who believe she should either lose weight or pay extra to board planes. Chaney, who usually posts about “fighting for fat liberation,” went to TikTok to hit back at five negative comments she received from people.

The first comment was that she should lose weight. “Oh, so I should just change my entire body to accommodate your comfort,” she stated in the video. “It’s not my job to shrink myself to fit into spaces that were never designed for me in the first place. And let’s not even get into the fact that losing weight isn’t a simple fix – it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution.”

The second comment mentioned that she should “upgrade to first class.”

“First class is a luxury, not a solution,” Chaney stated. “And guess what? First class isn’t even big enough for some fat bodies. The cost is way out of reach for most people, and upgrading doesn’t solve the fundamental issue of under-sized seats for fat people in economy. Fix the system, not the people.”

The next comment she received was that she should not fly.

“I’ll just stop living my life because the world isn’t built for me,” Chaney asked facetiously. “Flying is a necessity for many people, whether for work, family or travel. Telling fat people to just stay at home is not a solution – it’s exclusion.”

She then contradicted a comment that flying is not “a right” but is instead “a privilege.”

“Sure, flying is a privilege, but basic human dignity and accessibility are rights,” the influencer claimed. “No one should be excluded from traveling comfortably or safely because of their body size. Let’s focus on equality, not exclusion.”

Another person told Chaney, “I have to pay extra for luggage, so you should be charged by weight.”

“So now my body is being compared to luggage,” she asked while contradicting this point in her video. “Charging by weight is fat-phobic and dehumanizing. I’m not a suitcase. Paying extra for luggage is a different issue entirely. Let’s talk about fair, equal treatment for all passengers.”

“This is why we need the Fat Equality Bill of Rights and the Fat Accessibility Act,” she claimed at the end of the video. 

“It’s time to stop tolerating fatphobia and make travel, healthcare and public spaces accessible to everyone – no matter their size,” the blogger added.
