‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Actor Tamayo Perry, 49, Killed In Shark Attack In Hawaii

On Sunday, Hawaiian surfer and lifeguard Tamayo Perry was killed in a shark attack.

The 49-year-old, known for roles in Pirates of the Caribbean and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, was killed on Oahu’s north shore, where he had worked as a lifeguard for eight years.

“It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of one of our incredibly dedicated City and County of Honolulu lifeguards, who tragically lost his life today in an apparent shark attack on the North Shore,” Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi said in a statement.

“His heroic actions and tireless efforts to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors will never be forgotten,” he said. Blangiardi also noted Perry’s “bravery, commitment and deep sense of duty.”

A caller told dispatchers that Perry’s body appeared to have suffered more than one bite. Spokesperson for Honolulu Ocean Safety Shayne Enright said during a news conference that rescuers responded on jet after 1 p.m. and brought Perry to shore, where he was declared dead.

Perry was known for his surfing skills, specifically for navigating the large waves at the Banzai Pipeline. His other acting credits include Lost and Hawaii: Five-O.

In 2023, uInterview spoke to Discover’s Shark Week host Dr. Austin Gallagher about what a person should do if they encounter a shark in the water

He advised that if you come across a shark while you are swimming, you should try to assert your dominance rather than swim away from the shark.

“Standing your ground and making eye contact with, you know, the big predatory sharks like tigers and whites usually is what you need to do,” he stated. “In order to, you know, kind of assert your dominance.”
