Pierce Brosnan Is Unrecognizable In Character For His Upcoming War Film ‘The Last Rifleman’

Pierce Brosnan looks unrecognizable as the D-Day veteran, Artie Crawford, for the upcoming Sky Cinema film, The Last Rifleman, in a newly released photo.

With the help of prosthetics and a gray wig, the 70-year-old actor had been given the appearance of a 92-year-old man.

Brosnan’s character wears a uniform covered in war medals while also using a walking stick.

The character was inspired by the experiences of the late Royal Navy Lieutenant Bernard Jordan.

In June 2014, this veteran became famous for escaping his care home at 89 years of age just so he could commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Normandy landings.

Jordan lied to the staff by stating that he was just “‘popping down to the shops.'”

He made it to France by taking a train at Brighton Railway station to Portsmouth before taking a ferry to France.

The World War II veteran managed to attend the anniversary. He paid his respects, along with hundreds of other veterans, to those who sacrificed themselves during the war.

A cross-channel search and rescue operation had been undertaken to look for Jordan.

His escape earned him the nickname “The Great Escaper” in the British tabloids.

“My thoughts were with my mates who had been killed,” the veteran stated when looking back on his journey. “I was going to pay my respects.”

“In the months leading up to the anniversary, I tried to get an official trip to Normandy, but I didn’t have the necessary passes,” he confessed. “Seeing all the TV coverage the day before D-Day, I felt, ‘I have to go and be part of it.’ I was naughty and secretive.”

Jordan died in January 2015, and so did his wife, Irene, a week after. Since they had no children, they bequeathed their £600,000 estate to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Michael Caine previously played him in the ITV series, The Great Escaper.

Sky recently released new images of Brosnan in the role. One image showed the Irish actor sitting down in makeup and uniform and holding his character’s walking stick.

A caption read, “@piercebrosnanofficial as 92 year old WWII veteran Artie in ‘The Last Rifleman’ will make you believe in humanity again.”

Brosnan, while in makeup and uniform, was seen using the walking stick during the film’s shoot in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

This film’s cast includes Clémence Poésy, John Amos and Desmond Eastwood.

While no official release date has been announced yet, the film is expected to be in theaters this year.

In June, a man was arrested for trespassing in Brosnan’s Malibu home.
