Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died of a heroin overdose earlier this month, left his entire estate to his estranged partner and mother to his three children, Mimi O’Donnell, and wanted to have a say in his son’s upbringing.
Hoffman had the will drawn up back in 2004, when he and O’Donnell only had their son, Cooper. As one of the stipulations in the will, the late actor had asked that his child to be raised in Manhattan, citing the city’s impressive cultural landscape, reported TMZ. Backups to New York were Chicago and San Francisco. Missing from the list, was Los Angeles, where Hoffman spent much of his time shooting movies.
Though Hoffman and O’Donnell had started living apart a few months before his death due to his drug habit, the parents both resided in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan. Hoffman was frequently spotted walking through Lower Manhattan with his kids, and often sat courtside at basketball games with Cooper.
"My spare time is really about hanging out with my kids," he once told Us Weekly. "If I'm free, a good chunk of that is going to be thinking about how to hang out with them."
Hoffman was found dead of an apparent heroin overdose in his apartment on Feb. 2. The 46-year-old actor, who was in the midst of filming the final Hunger Games movie, had been struggling to kick his drug habit for roughly the last year. In addition to Cooper, he left behind two daughters – Tallulah, 7, and Willa, 5.
