The reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles have been uninvited from the White House by Donald Trump. Nobody within the organization has since sent out an official response, but now Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney has spoken out on the team’s behalf, and he is not mincing words.
In a statement, Kenney declared, “Disinviting [the Eagles] from the White House only proves that our President is not a true patriot, but a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a party to which no one wants to attend.”

The full statement (tweeted out by NBC Philadephia’s John Clark) can be read in full below:
According to ESPN, a “large group of Eagles players,” including most (or possibly all) of the black players were not planning on attending the originally scheduled visit. In light of the lack of planned attendance, Trump then decided to cancel the event.
This is not the first time that Kenney has spoken out against the president. He has declared that Philadelphia will remain a sanctuary city despite threats of losing federal funding. And he also joined protesters at Philadelphia International Airport after Trump signed the travel ban of seven majority-Muslim countries.

This is also not the first time Kenney has spoken out against another politician regarding football, as he called former New Jersey governor (and noted Dallas Cowboys fan) Chris Christie a “creep” back in 2014.
