Philadelphia Eagles Confirm They Plan On Visiting White House If Trump Invites Them

The Philadelphia Eagles have confirmed that they will visit the White House if President Donald Trump invites them to celebrate their Super Bowl victory.

After rumors on social media that the Eagles declined the traditional visit, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that the team hoped to go to the White House.

According to sources for the team, Schefter wrote on X that they are “planning on visiting the White House this off-season and looks forward to receiving its invitation.”

“We would be honored to visit the White House,” a source with the team told CNN. “It’s one of the things we had looked forward to doing, and we look forward to receiving the invitation.”

After they beat the Kansas City Chiefs in this year’s Super Bowl, Trump told CBS News on Feb. 25 that the team would be invited.

“They will be, we haven’t yet, but we will be,” the president told the outlet. “I thought it was a great performance by them. Absolutely, they’ll be extended that invitation… We’ll do that right away. We’re going to do it sometime today. They deserve to be down here, and we hope to see them.”

A White House official told Axios that the Eagles had not declined an invitation at all.

The Eagles’ offensive lineman Lane Johnson told Sportico that he would “be honored to go, regardless of who the president is, but we’ll see.”

“It’s ultimately a team decision,” Johnson said. “I’ll do what’s best for the team.”

Head coach Nick Sirianni mentioned in the postgame press conference that he had not considered a possible White House visit.

Sirianni also said he was far more focused on celebrating the victory in New Orleans and returning home for the parade.

“We’ll see as we go,” he said in response to a reporter’s question about Johnson’s statement on a White House visit. “We’re gonna enjoy this tonight, and we’ll enjoy it tomorrow, and we’ll enjoy it the next day.”

“We don’t have to get ready for another game soon,” the head coach noted. “Can’t wait to celebrate this with the guys and celebrate this with my family.”

Following their victory against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 2018, the Eagles chose not to celebrate the championship with Trump, who was in his first presidential term. In response, Trump disinvited them to the White House.
