Phil Collins, ex-Genesis drummer/singer turned solo artist, is officially coming out of retirement to record music and eventually do a comeback tour.
The singer stated that he is ready to record music again but has no material written but already has an album name, My Life in 15 Songs. This will be first studio album he has released since 2002 when he released Testify and then went on hiatus because of numerous medical conditions he experinced like nearly losing all his hearing in his left ear, dislocating the vertebra in his neck and his recent back surgery, which he is still recovering from today.
Not only will he record an album but is working on putting together a comeback tour because of his recent endeavor on reissuing his solo albums. “I got very involved in these reissues,” Collins in an interview with Rolling Stone. “We even re-shot all the covers, which was my idea. I’m easily flattered. If people rediscover the old stuff and show interest, it would be silly not to make more music.”
Collins even opened the door to touring with Genesis. “Let’s start with this [solo] bit first. I love the guys,” he said. “I would just prefer to do this first. For now, let’s just see how this goes.”
In the end, Collins wants to write music that makes him happy and for the world to listen to and embrace because of his absence. “No matter what happens, I can go out there, play piano and sing,” he said. “I’m just in a very happy place right now.”
